Tour description

Join Kim and Bobby Sanchez in the beach side Garifuna community of Seine Bight and cook classic Garifuna dishes utilizing fresh caught fish and coconut right from Placencia Peninsula. We cook over an outdoor, wood burning fire hearth right in their yard. Husk and grate a coconut from the tree to make coconut milk from scratch.

Let Kim guide you through the process of concocting hudut, an iconic and delectable Garifuna dish featuring a rich coconut broth, crispy fried fish and mashed plantain. Served, of course, with home made habanero hot sauce.

If you rather just watch the culinary magic, relax in the shade with a fresh cut coconut water while our expert instructors do the rest.

Garifuna music is recognized by the UN as UNESCO Intangible Heritage, of great importance and value to the world. For additional cost, learn all about the ancient art of drum making in Garifuna culture from traditional drum maker Bobby Sanchez, then get a chance to play alongside him as he teaches you the different drum beats. His wife Kim Sanchez then demonstrates and teaches you the steps of three distinct Garifuna dances.

Alcoholic beverages are not included but you are welcome to bring your own!

Our Garifuna Cooking Class or Cooking, Drumming and Dance experience takes place at the residence of our instructors Bobby and Kim Sanchez, at the north end of Seine Bight Village, one house off the main Placencia Peninsula Road.

Standard Tour payments will be processed only after 2 people are signed up for your tour – if not – your card will not be charged. An email notice is sent to you in either case.
