Welcome to Village Farm Organic Homestead

Established 1971. Port Honduras Marine Reserve, Toledo District, Belize

Meet Village Farm Organic Homestead

Nestled into the jungle coastline of Belize’s most remote Toledo District, in the heart of the Port Honduras Marine Reserve. Our off-grid, off-road 300 acre property is only accessible by boat. For over 50 years our family has transformed these 300 acres into a mature tropical permaculture farm and wilderness reserve. Here you can explore sea, jungle and our organic farm on your own, at your own pace, or book one of our farm-to-table workshops for a guided experience with culinary anthropologist Dr. Lyra Spang, who grew up on this property.

Exploring:

Take a walk on Village Farm’s jungle trails or wander through her cacao orchards, allspice groves and black pepper gardens. Climb our Spice Hill for views of the Caribbean and nearby islands. Jump in a kayak or our traditional wooden dug out canoe called a dory for a paddle around the Bay of Honduras or up nearby Middle River or Seven Hills Creek.

Birding:

Village Farm Organic Homestead is a birder’s paradise. If you love to bird and immerse yourself in nature, this is the spot for you! Over 250 of the more than 500 species of birds found in Belize have been sighted here. Expect to see long tailed hermit hummingbirds fly through the kitchen and to wake up in the morning to the sound of our talkative parrots and chachalacas.

Fishing:

Bring your spin casting rods or fly fishing gear or use our rustic hand lines to fish off our pier. Use our paddling dory to extend your range and explore tarpon filled Middle River and, to the south, Seven Hills Creek. Or let us book you to head out to the reef and sand flats east of our farm with the experienced and passionate guides at Garbutts Fishing!

Tropical Farm-To-Table Culinary Exploration:

Our homestead is a mature tropical permaculture farm that boasts a wide range of seasonal edibles. Depending on the time of year, coconuts, star fruit, breadfruit, bananas, papayas, avocados, oranges, mangoes, cashews, guavas, turmeric, ginger, black pepper, allspice, greens like chaya and callaloo and root crops like cassava and coco yam are available for harvest. Guests are encouraged to explore what we have to offer and use it in our farm kitchen, which is equipped with both a wood burning and gas stove. If you want to get the most out of the culinary side of our farm, we recommend including one of our Farm-to-Table Workshops as part of your adventure.

Want to explore on your own? Contact Us for options. Or if you rather a guided experience, click here to learn about our immersive farm to table workshops with Belize’s only culinary anthropologist, Dr. Lyra Spang, who grew up on the property!
