Tasting Toledo: Maya Cooking & Chocolate

$135.00

Embark on a Maya cultural adventure in Toledo District. Get hands on with Maya culture with a Kekchi Maya family in the village of Indian Creek. Let the Coc sisters teach you about Maya cuisine and make your own corn tortillas, lancha (chicken or fish steamed in a rain forest leaf), and palm heart for lunch or if you rather, just watch these expert cooks in action. While lunch cooks on the wood burning fire hearth, learn about jippy jappa palm basket weaving from these expert craftswomen. After a delicious lunch we head to Belizean Maya owned Ixcacao Chocolate to learn about cacao trees and enjoy piles of decadent chocolate samples and Maya style hot chocolate. Top it all off by making our own chocolate by hand using heirloom stone tools.
