Drumming and Dancing:
Garifuna musical traditions have been declared intangible national heritage by the UNESCO World Heritage Foundation for good reason! Join Bobby and Kim at the Ubafu Drum School to experience the power and beauty of Garifuna drumming and dancing. All classes are conducted at their beach front school just north of  Seine Bight Village on Placencia Peninsula. Class prices do not include transportation to and from the class but taxi drivers will be happy to take you there or if you are driving yourself the school is well marked on our main road and we will give you directions.

Garifuna Drumming Class: Choose one or two hours of personal hands on fun and learning about the history and importance of drums in Garifuna culture. Learn about the different drums and the main drum beats. Drum maker Bobby and his band mates will show you and jam with you as you get to drum yourself. A one hour class will teach you the basic drum beats and help you appreciate the culture and history of Garifuna drumming, by the end of two hours you will be ready to join the jam session with confidence.

Price: One hour lessons are 30 USD per person, Two hour lessons are 50 USD per person.
Time: Classes can be booked morning or afternoon.
What to bring: camera, sunblock, bug spray and your love of music! You may want to bring your swimsuit and towel in case you decide to take advantage of being on the beach and jump in the sea after your lesson!

Garifuna Dance Class: Learn how to punta and paranda from the best! Get your dance on at Bobby and Kim’s beach side drum and dance school as you learn about the different Garifuna dances, the culture and history behind them and how to get down Garifuna style. One hour introductory class and two hour classes for those who love to dance and want to learn more!

Price: One hour class is 30 USD per person, Two hour lessons are 50 USD.

Garifuna Fire hearth Cooking on the Beach: Join Bobby and Kim at their beach front home to learn to cook classic Garifuna dishes utilizing fresh caught fish and coconut right from the peninsula! We cook over an outdoor, wood burning fire hearth right on the beach.  Depending on what ingredients are available this week, we either make hudut, a delicious meal featuring a rich coconut broth, crispy fried fish and mashed plantain, or tapau, another rich and savory stew of green bananas, coconut milk and fish.

Price: Classes are 40 USD per person.
Time: Classes can be booked morning or afternoon and last about 2 hours.
What to bring: camera, sunblock, bug spray and your love of delicious food! You may want to bring your swimsuit and towel in case you decide to take advantage of being on the beach and jump in the sea after your meal!

Dinner at Your Place: Have a kitchen in your vacation rental? Expert cook Radiance Williams will be happy to bring her culinary skills and warm personality to your place and cook you and your loved ones a delicious dinner. She accommodates vegetarian, pescatarian and non-seafood eaters with ease. If you want to learn about Belizean Creole food, Ms. Radiance will show you the secrets. Get hands on and learn how to make the dish or just relax with a drink and let her prepare you a delicious meal. Either way, we can make it happen for you.

Dinner at Her Place:  Don’t have a kitchen in your hotel room or want to venture out of the house for your cooking adventure? Join Radiance in Placencia Village as you learn how to make and devour a delicious Belizean Creole meal.

Price: For both cooking classes prices are as follows. 45 USD per person for lobster (when in season and dependent on availability), 35 USD conch (when in season and dependent on availability), shrimp or fish,  30 USD for pork, chicken or vegetarian. For bookings that require traveling north of the airstrip there is an additional 40USD transportation fee which pays for Ms. Radiance’s taxi trip to and from your rental. Two person minimum to book. Alcoholic beverages are not included but you are more than welcome to bring your own!

Time: We can book you for anytime after 3PM. Classes typically take about 2 hours but may be more depending on the dish. Talk to us about your food preferences so we can pick the perfect dish for you! 

Transport: If you have booked for Dinner at Your Place, Ms. Radiance will be at your door with all the ingredients and necessary tools at the appointed time.

If you booked for Dinner at her Place, we will give you detailed directions to Radiance’s location. The cost of transportation is not included in the cooking class price, you are responsible for paying the taxi driver.
